Bhupathi-Sania move into semis getting walkover in quarters
Indian pair Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza moved into the mixed doubles semi-finals by default as their quarterfinals opponents seventh-seeded Martin Damm and Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic pulled out here Tuesday.
Unseeded Bhupathi and Mirza earlier in the day defeated the second seed pair Lisa Raymond of US and her Swedish partner Simon Aspelin 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 to make the last eight.
In the men’s doubles, sixth-seeded Bhupathi and Mark Knowles of Bahamas will take on top-seeded Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan in the men’s doubles quarter-finals Wednesday.
In the boys’ singles, Yuki Bhambri advanced to the third round while Karunuday Singh’s campaign came to an end.
In the second round, Bhambri defeated Slovakia’s Zalan Klempa 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, in his second round match, while Karunuday went down fighting 6-7 (4-7), 4-6 against Tsung-Hua-Yang of Chinese Taipei.
Bhambri will take on Japanese Tadayuki Loughi in the pre-quarterfinals.
