Sania stays 38th in WTA rankings

Indian ace Sania Mirza has maintained her 38th rank on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released Monday.

The Hyderabad-based 19-year-old has 598 points, says the WTA web site.

The next highest ranked Indian is the US-born Sunitha Rao, who is ranked a lowly 238th. But she has significantly climbed up 26 places from her previous week’s 264th position.

Justine Henin of Belgium retained the top position with 4,457 points. Russian Maria Sharapova, who has 3,678 points, is in second place.

Henin maintains lead in WTA rankings

Justine Henin of Belgium leads an unchanged top 10 in the latest women’s tennis rankings issued here Monday by the WTA.

With no major tournament scheduled the week after Wimbledon due to Fed Cup semi-final action, the French Open champion Henin heads the rankings with 4,457 points.

Russia’s Maria Sharapova is second with 3,678 points and Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic third on 3,241 points.
