Mirza joins star-studded cast at Dubai Tennis Championships

Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza will be looking forward to making ammends for her disastrous Australian Open performance when she return to the million-dollar Dubai Tennis Championships here next month.

Sania will have to compete against the likes of defending champion and world number one Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, two-time former champion Justine Henin-Hardenne, Serena and Venus Williams for the honours.

A wild card entry last year, Sania made the world sit up and take notice when she stunned 2004 US Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the very first round.

A substantial expatriate population in the Gulf ensured maximum cheers to the Hyderabadi teenager last year and her increased global appeal would only add some charm to the tournament.
